SUA - SS7 SCCP-User Adaptation Layer (SUA)

This document contains a compilation of all defects found up until the publication date for SUA [RFC3868] [1]. These defects may be of an editorial or technical nature. This document may be thought of as a companion document to be used in the implementation of SUA to clarify errors in the original SUA document. This document updates RFC3868 and text within this document supersedes the text found in RFC3868.

This document defines a protocol for the transport of any Signalling Connection Control Part-User signalling over IP using the Stream Control Transmission Protocol. The protocol is designed to be modular and symmetric, to allow it to work in diverse architectures, such as a Signalling Gateway to IP Signalling Endpoint architecture as well as a peer-to-peer IP Signalling Endpoint architecture.

This Internet Draft defines a protocol for the transport of any SS7 SCCP-User signalling (e.g., TCAP, RANAP, etc.) over IP using the Stream Control Transport Protocol. The protocol should be modular and symmetric, to allow it to work in diverse architectures, such as a Signalling Gateway to IP Signalling Endpoint architecture as well as a peer-to-peer IP Signalling Endpoint architecture. Protocol elements are added to allow operation between peers in the SS7 and IP domains.

This document presents the test specification for SUA (SCCP User Adaptation layer) protocol, which can be used to test SUA implementations for conformance to the protocol definition. The list of tests is exhaustive and covers almost all the categories of test. This draft can also be used in conjunction with SUA specification by implementers of protocol as implementers guide, as the pictorial representation of various scenarios help easy understanding of the protocol.

This protocol can also support Transport of SCCP-user messages between two endpoints wholly Contained within an IP network. Depending upon the upper layer Protocol supported, the SUA will need to support SCCP Connectionless service, SCCP connect-oriented service or Both services.
